Senior Software Engineer, Java

Location: Porto, Portugal

Your Role
Building upon the success of our current products, PVCAD, PVCAD MEGA, PVSketch and PVSketch MEGA, we are increasing our technical team to help realize new, complex features in our software platform. The implementation of these features will include regular communication with mechanical engineers, data scientists, software engineers, and other team members. Consequently, we seek software engineers who are excited about solar energy and related engineering concepts, and are comfortable shipping production ready code.

As Senior Software Engineer, you will implement and take ownership of new features realized in PVSketch. Working closely with the CTO (who is also an active software engineer), you will partake in daily meetings and help communicate timelines and technical challenges to the rest of the team as they pertain to current project scopes. Your primary code contribution will come in the form of backend Java code, with periodic frontend tasks and database creation/maintenance. You should be comfortable creating and consuming REST APIs and asynchronous server communication, and understand Windows desktop software development. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to our AWS microservices written in a range of languages and using various cloud technologies/services, including Python and Javascript.

Qualifications

• Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
• 3+ years professional experience developing and delivering commercial software
• Expert level skill in Java, with experience in other modern programming languages
• Knowledge of object oriented programming best practices and the ability to realize them in Java
• Deep understanding of scalable computing systems, software architecture, data structures, and algorithms
• Experience with the full software development life cycle
• Passionate about renewable energy technology and solutions to climate change
• Eligible to work in the European Union
• Knowledge of REST API best practices
• Experience with professional software engineering tools, best practices, and the full software development life cycle
• Experience with Git and knowledge of version control principles
• Strong English language skills

Our design and engineering platform is comprised of PVCAD (a solar extension for AutoCAD), PVSketch (a solar design web application). These products work together to automate the conversion between sales and engineering, allowing solar companies to design and plan solar projects faster and more accurately. Our customers are solar companies around the world who use the PVComplete software platform to design solar projects from residential homes to large scale solar farms.

About the role:
This is a transactional, high energy role in which you will bring solar design software to small to medium size customers, building PVComplete’s business and bringing the benefits of design optimization to customers. Typical sales will be $3k to $20k, and typically involve demos, team decision making. This position is based in Porto, Portugal.
In this role, you will: 

• Own customer engagements end-to-end, from prospecting and qualification to close
• Generate pipeline through strategic outbound prospecting, as well as receive inbound leads
• Experience handling and owning transactional sales process with high volume demands
• Be part of the PVComplete mission of solving global climate change by increasing solar energy deployment

Minimum requirements for this role:

• Fluency in both English and Portuguese
• 1-3+ years experience in a full-cycle, closing sales role
• Proven track record of consistent quota over-achievement
• Account executive with experience in the commercial space – small to medium deals sizes
• High interest in renewable energy or climate change solutions
• Experience with high volume cold calling
• Comfortable in a rapidly changing, high growth tech environment
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Coachable team player with a growth mindset and high emotional intelligence 
• SFDC familiarity
